Fall Events in Norfolk, VA

In the Spring and Summer months there are a lot of things to do in Norfolk, with the bay and the beaches nearby, and warm-weather events like outdoor concerts and a Cajun Food Festival, but what about when the leaves start turning shades of gold and red and the weather requires that you skip the flip-flops and shorts for a jacket instead? Here are some of the best things to do in Norfolk VA in the fall.

Take a Scenic Drive

Fifteen million acres await you in the Fall, with the foliage transformed for the coming Winter, and the farms and orchards made ready for harvest festivals, hay rides and corn mazes. You will experience Norfolk's pumpkin patches and get your own pumpkins to carve up for Halloween, as well as other fall venues. But before the snow covers everything with a blanket of white, you can experience the incredible scenery that awaits you on Virginia's roadways.

Main Street Tours in Harrisonburg and Waynesboro

Choose an out of town destination like the Massanutten Resort in Waynesboro, or the Iris or Tree Streets Inn and enjoy a fine meal at Stone Soup Books and Cafe, the Market on Main or the Purple Foot. Then, while you are in Waynesboro, you can visit the local hiking trails or explore the civil war routes. You can also visit the P. Buckley Moss Museum. The Shenandoah Bicycle Company offers wonderful guided tours, or you could hit the water with Mossy Creek Fly Fishing. There is also a Farmer's Market nearby that pulls out all of the stops in the fall to offer the freshest fruits and vegetables imaginable.

The Winchester Apple Trail

If you want to find out about Winchester's apple heritage, there are some terrific ways to do so. Your first stop might be Marker-Miller Orchards, where they offer a unique experience for the taste buds with their apple cider doughnuts. You'll also be able to take a wonderfully scenic tour of the orchard, or sit on the front porch in an authentic wooden rocking chair and enjoy the amazing mountain views and the cool breeze coming from the mountain. You can also visit the Civil War Orientation Center and the Winchester-Fredrick County Visitor's Center or the Old Town Pedestrian Mall in the middle of town.

Skyland Resort in Autumn

Skyland Resort is a terrific place to spent time in the fall. The resort is at 3,680 feet and offers spectacular view of the mountains, as well as a wonderful restaurant that offers Virginia farm raised trout. You can get a picnic to take with you and visit the Shenandoah National Park which features camping and sightseeing and much more. Stony Mountain Trail offers a great hike through the trees and a view from 4,010 feet at the summit.
