The fall season has officially arrived in Chesapeake! This October is offering up even more spooks and thrills. So, join Cavalier Mazda in this frighteningly fun adventure throughout the Chesapeake area as we break down the friendliest and scariest Halloween events around town.
1. Corn Maze at Bergey’s Breadbasket
Where: 2207 Mount Pleasant Road, Chesapeake, VA 23322
When: Fridays and Saturdays throughout October until November 1, 2014
Bergey’s Breadbasket is a Chesapeake treasure. 2014 marks the company’s 6th annual harvest time corn maze. The maze is open to the general public on Friday and Saturday afternoons throughout October and is family-friendly. The corn maze stretches 5 acres and includes educational stops along the way to help navigate your way through to the end. Added bonuses: bakery treats, a pumpkin patch, and pony rides!
Scare-o-Meter Rating: Low. Bergey’s Breadbasket is a perfect autumn harvest activity for people of all ages. Visitors can sincerely enjoy and reminisce about childhood memories and believing in Halloween magic.
2. Ghost Train at Northwest River Park
Where: 1733 Indian Creek Road, Chesapeake, VA 23322
When: October 16-18 and October 23-25, 2014
Pack up the family van and drive on over to Northwest River Park for an evening filled with fun scares. The Ghost Train is operated by Chesapeake City and seating is limited, so be sure to purchase tickets online in order to reserve your spooky experience. This 30-minute ride is interactive, complete with animatronic attractions, a storyteller, and a quick visit to the Northwest River Park Activity Room.
Scare-o-Meter Rating: Medium. Older guests may find some of the animatronics more amusing and less frightening, but the true horror is in the story. The narrative of the old Ghost Train told while aboard is sure to leave you sleeping with the lights on.
3. Haunted Hunt Club Farm
Where: 2388 London Bridge Road in Virginia Beach, VA
When: Wednesdays through Sundays throughout October
During the night, creatures come out to play! Throughout the morning, Hunt Club Farm manages daily activities and adventures for the family, but once the sun sets, nightly haunts engage visitors in dozens of frightening activities. The Haunted Hunt Club Farm has horror and fun for every age group, so families are still invited to join in on the festivities. From a “Field of Screams” to the “Haunted Hayride” and a “Village of the Dead,” screams and shrieks are surely inevitable. There are also various events throughout the month of October, like “Farm Factory” (Hunt Club’s version of the hit show “Fear Factory”), Military Appreciation Nights, Children’s Halloween Costume Party, and a “Bands and Brew Night.”
Scare-o-Meter Rating: Medium-High. Depending on the activity, Hunt Club can be as terrifying as you want. Because of the wide variety of attractions, you have the ability to tailor your visit to your liking.
4. Zombie Fun Run
Where: Chesapeake Central Library, 298 Cedar Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23322
When: October 25, 2014 from 4-9PM
The Chesapeake Public Library’s Zombie Fun Run is a perfect Halloween event for the community. Join the community of survivors in their 3k trek along a path filled with zombies. In a flag football-esque competition, participants are provided with several “survivor flags” which, if walkers aren’t careful, can be taken in a split moment by a zombie. Make it to the end with your flag to be dubbed a “Survivor.” Following the 3k will be a Block Party, complete with music, games and costume contests, and an array of food trucks.
Scare-o-Meter Rating: Low. This is definitely a family-centered event, but the zombie costumes could shock and amaze even the bravest of Halloween thrill-seekers
