Fall Events Virginia Beach VA
A variety of events offer your family plenty of Virginia Beach recreational activities in the fall. The crowds finally start to thin out as families have to go home for the new school year. Once the long hot summer starts winding down and the weather gets comfortable, recreational activities become appealing. The sun goes down earlier which helps keep the temperatures down and many evening activities are more accessible.
The Range Of Opportunities
Most of the events that take place in the fall offer some unique experiences. They involve festivals, special events related to food and drinks, and music. The Labor Day Weekend is the traditional end of the summer season, even though fall does not officially start until later in the month. To help end the summer, the Virginia Beach Music Festival is a three-day event that features four stages of music. It is the largest outdoor music event on the East Coast and features local musicians and national acts.
The next weekend is the Blues at the Beach Festival. Several blues bands are scheduled to play on Friday September 5th and Saturday the 6th at the 17th Street Park. This is a long running blues festival and is one of the more popular events for this style of music in the region. It will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and if you are looking for affordable entertainment, this is 
it. Single day tickets are only five dollars and buying a two-day pass saves two more. Seeing blues bands play and spending the day on the beach is a great combination.
Alternative Opportunities
This same weekend has some other events you might be interested in. The Neptune's Surfing Classic takes place on Saturday the 6th and competition begins around 7:30 in the morning. The competition is scheduled to take place between 1st and 8th streets. This is a great chance for you and the family to watch and compete with the best amateur and professional local surfers.
Discovering New Food
During the third weekend in September, you can find different types of food and activities related to Italy and Greece. The Mediterranean Weekend starts on Friday September 12th and ends on Sunday the 14th. The Festa Italiana takes place in the TownCenter and features Italian food, music, and plenty of pizza. There is even a chance for you and the family to try grape stomping. In the nearby 24th street park, My Big Fat Greek Party has a variety of Greek dishes, especially rich deserts, along with music, dancing, and cultural displays.
Neptune Festival
The last weekend in September is a big one. There is a lot to see and do and will attract many tourists. The Neptune Festival wraps up with the International Sand sculpting competition, which is the largest in the world and the Boardwalk Weekend.
The Big Event
Three stages host bands from Friday until Sunday and 32 blocks of festival tents offer endless varieties of food and gifts. There is also a Regatta, arts and crafts fair, and volleyball tournament. The big events are Saturday night, which feature a Grand Parade and Fireworks Extravaganza. Your family will enjoy the floats and marching bands in the parade and sitting on the beach to watch the fireworks over the ocean.
